HR Manager

We are looking for an HR Manager to join our Head Office in Abingdon. The HR team provides HR services to the whole of Tessella (currently ~260 employees, including small teams in the Netherlands and USA). This is an exciting opportunity to further your career and make an impact within Tessella, using a combination of your HR experience, excellent interpersonal skills and team-oriented approach.

The Role

Reporting to our HR Director, you will play a key role in managing the day to day activities of the HR team and help develop and deliver our HR Strategy. You will also take on line management responsibilities for the HR and payroll team. Your key activities will include:

  • Proactively support the delivery of HR services to the whole of Tessella (UK, NL and USA)
  • Build strong business relationships with staff, internal stakeholders and external advisers
  • Provide HR guidance to Line Managers and staff and advise on specific HR queries
  • Review and update HR related policies and procedures
  • Oversee and monitor the administration of payroll, pension and benefits schemes
  • Develop new HR training material and coach Line Managers
  • Take the lead on performance management, disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Assist with on-boarding new staff and conduct exit interviews
  • Line Manage and provide leadership to the HR and payroll team
  • Provide support and assistance to the recruitment team as required

About You

This is a busy and varied role for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with the following attributes:

  • Proven generalist HR experience with a solid understanding of employment law and good HR practices
  • Educated to degree level and ideally CIPD qualified
  • Comfortable working in a highly technical SME environment; our staff are scientists and engineers, over 50% of whom have PhDs
  • Experience in the provision of payroll and benefits services
  • Line management experience and leadership skills, including the ability to identify and set priorities
  • A pragmatic approach and good business acumen when considering and proposing credible solutions to HR issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to build strong relationships and influence at all levels
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience of supporting international staff would be an advantage
