Key Account Manager – Life Sciences & Healthcare

We are looking for an exceptional Key Account Manager with a proven track record in selling high value technical consultancy and analytics services to the life sciences and healthcare sector. The Role

Reporting to the Life Science Sector Director, you will be responsible for the revenue growth of two of Tessella’s flagship, blue-chip pharma accounts (headquartered in the UK) through Tessella’s market-leading technical consulting and analytics services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning, developing and driving the strategic account plans showing commitment to growth, profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Growing a pipeline of opportunities for Tessella’s services within the accounts and driving new opportunities to closure, ensuring revenue targets are met.

Influencing and networking with current and prospective clients to build relationships and lobby at senior levels, and to identify business needs to address.

  • Understand the challenges facing our clients and spot opportunities where Tessella’s services can add value.
  • Working with senior members of Tessella’s delivery organization to ensure successful project launch and delivery.
  • Define and implement best practice account management strategies based on prioritised business needs.
  • Meeting requirements for client engagement, CRM data entry and quality, activity reporting.
  • Work with technical staff to produce competitive and innovative proposals for projects in the range of £50K to £5M.
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing team to plan your account strategy.
  • Coordinate with account teams outside of Tessella, but within the Altran Group, to realise account growth targets.

Once up to speed we will expect you to achieve combined annual sales in excess of £6M+ and you will be incentivised to meet revenue targets accordingly. Tessella’s projects tend to involve complex, consultative sales with long lead times, so you will need strong influencing skills and a great deal of patience and tenacity to succeed in this role.

The successful candidate could be based from any of our UK offices (Abingdon, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Stevenage, Warrington) since the nature of the role will require significant travel in the UK and internationally (as required).

About You

We are looking for a driven, self-motivated and proactive individual with the following attributes:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in science, mathematics or engineering, ideally in a life sciences or healthcare subject.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ sales experience which will include either management of a Key Account, with skills in the associated disciplines, or in finding and winning Strategic Deals, typically ranging from 50-5M+, with clear understanding of the consulting-services sales process.
  • Ability to network with senior industry connections and build strong, long term relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience of selling complex technical solutions and consulting services into large organisations.
  • Ability to put together winning proposals through direct sales and in response to tenders.
  • An understanding of the drivers in the life sciences sector and prior experience of working in this area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to translate business needs into potential solutions, leading the internal and external sales process from start to finish
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and team working skills.
  • Ability to deal with contract negotiations with the client.
  • Ability to travel nationally on a regular basis and as required internationally.
