Sector Sales Director – Science / Engineering – Analytics / Data Science

We are looking for an exceptional individual to take a sales leadership role, primarily focused on Tessella’s UK and wider European engineering, scientific research and finance customers. Our clients in this area include well-known and world class engineering firms, multinational financial institutions and UK and European science research facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring that you and your sales team meet annual revenue and gross profit targets.

Reporting to the Sales & Marketing Director, you will have responsibility for agreeing and delivering on the global strategy for your client portfolio, including the prioritisation of clients and service offerings. You will be managing a small team of sales staff and will be actively engaged in all aspects of the sales process.

Ideally, the position would be based in our Head Office in Abingdon, but we would be equally happy to consider candidates who wish to be based from one of our other UK offices (Burton, Stevenage, Warrington). Travel will mostly be within the UK but is likely to include mainland Europe locations and occasional US travel.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and nurture strong client and prospect relationships.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality proposals to clients.
  • Plan the client portfolio strategy and maintain it in line with changing market conditions.
  • Line Manage a small team of sales staff and direct and mentor them to ensure that they meet their individual targets.
  • In agreement with the Sales and Marketing Director, assign client sales responsibilities appropriately between yourself and your team. You are likely to be required to own some strategic accounts yourself, and carry an appropriate personal target, which will contribute to your overall sector target.
  • Liaise closely with the marketing department to plan and implement marketing strategies, including dedicated marketing campaigns.
  • Attend industry conferences, events and workshops where you will give presentations or undertake face to face sales engagements on exhibition stands.
  • Provide comprehensive monthly reporting to the Sales and Marketing Director, including revenue and order intake forecasts.
  • Liaise closely with the European & US Operations Directors and their office managers to facilitate the optimisation of resourcing, recruitment and training plans.
  • Travel to client offices in locations around Europe and North America.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience of selling consultancy services related to data science and software.
  • Experience of owning and delivering against £M targets.
  • Familiarity with at least two of the following areas: financial services, automotive, rail, aerospace, engineering services, scientific research, telecoms.
  • Broad understanding of the various software development life cycles and most common development environments / tools etc.
  • High level understanding of analytics / maths / statistics.

  • Experience of constructive engagement with Operations staff within a business.
