Senior Business Development / Sales Manager – Life Sciences & Healthcare

We are looking for an highly successful new business development / sales professional with a proven track record in selling high value technical consultancy and analytics services to the life sciences and healthcare sector. The Role

Reporting to the Life Science Sector Director, you will be responsible for generating new sales of Tessella’s market-leading technical consulting and analytics services, with a focus on selling to mid to large pharmaceutical, healthcare and med tech organisations alongside other industrial, public, academic and charitable life science organisations. This will be achieved primarily in the UK, but also with the potential to expand into Europe. Your activities will include:

  • Open new accounts and develop the existing customer base.
  • Understand the challenges facing our clients and spot opportunities where Tessella’s services can add value.
  • Engage with clients and build strong, long term relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Work with technical staff to produce competitive and innovative proposals for projects in the range of £50K to £5M.
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing team to plan and deliver Tessella’s strategy in the life sciences sector.
  • Interact and work closely with sales teams within the broader Altran Group to pursue European sales opportunities.

Once up to speed we will expect you to achieve annual sales of £2M+ and you will be incentivised to meet revenue targets. Tessella’s projects tend to involve complex, consultative sales with long lead times, so you will need strong influencing skills and a great deal of patience and tenacity to succeed in this role.

The successful candidate could be based from any of our UK offices (Abingdon, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Stevenage, Warrington) since the nature of the role will require significant travel throughout the UK.

About You

We are looking for a driven, self-motivated and proactive individual with the following attributes:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in science, mathematics or engineering, ideally in a life sciences subject.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ sales experience (identifying opportunities, opening accounts, closing deals).
  • Ability to build strong, long term relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience of selling complex technical solutions and consulting services into large organisations.
  • Ability to put together winning proposals through direct sales and in response to tenders.
  • An understanding of the drivers in the life sciences sector and prior experience of working in this area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to clients and colleagues.
